Vascular emergencies
Vascular emergencies include traumatic and non-traumatic conditions in which the blood supply to vital organs, such as your brain or limbs are cut-off or blocked. It also includes conditions in which a blood vessel ruptures or bursts resulting in life-threatening bleeding. In these cases, it is crucial to maintain the vital blood supply to the various organ systems and thus as a vascular surgeon, Dr Moydien plays a vital role.
A range of conditions may impair circulation, cause disruption of the blood vessel wall with bleeding or occlusion of the blood vessel lumen, leading to a vascular emergency.
THE FOLLOWING VASCULAR EMERGENCIES ARE COMMONLY TREATED BY DR MOYDIEN:
- Vascular trauma involving the abdominal or thoracic aorta
- Traumatic vascular injuries to the limbs
- Acute limb ischeamia (acutely painful cold leg)
- Acute mesenteric ischeamia (acutely painful abdomen)
- Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms
- Ruptured thoracic aortic aneurysms
- Aortic dissection
- Iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis
